City of Iowa City installs Downtown Dog Relief Stations on Ped Mall

The City of Iowa City with advocacy from Master Gardeners and the Iowa City Downtown District, has installed a new pilot program for three dog relief stations in the pedestrian mall. The pilot program has been an effort to accommodate the larger number of pets living and spending time within downtown area. The dog relief stations are located at Linn St & College, on Dubuque St in the ped mall. The Iowa City outdoor Pet Relief Stations provide convenient locations for pet owners to be responsible pet owners, which does mean owners pick up their pet’s waste as a courtesy for all who enjoy Downtown Iowa City.On March 1st, the ICDD will hold a ribbon cutting for the pilot program at 4pm, at the North end of the pedestrian mall. The ribbon cutting is supported by Collins Community Credit Union, there will be dog treats for those four-legged friends that attend.

“Getting involved with the Dog Relief Stations downtown Iowa City seemed like a really unique opportunity for Collins Community Credit Union. We are always looking for innovative ways to support our communities and with our stand alone branch in North Liberty, this seemed like a great way to reach Iowa City community members as well.  Our initiatives also center around wellness, community beautification, and development so this sponsorship is just a great fit all around” stated Bailey Abben, Collins Community Credit Union North Liberty Branch Manager.
