4/23: Drawing from Life
Beppie Weiss has always been interested in figurative art and has developed a loose but realistic style in both of her preferred media, pastel and oil painting. She will show many of her artworks and demonstrate portrait drawing. Besides portrait commissions, the varied activities in her daily life provide the creative spark and subject matter of her work. A love of nature and gardening has inspired many paintings of flowers and gardens. Most recently, she works “en plein air” streamside as her husband fly fishes. Weiss has her BA from Purdue University, MFA from University of Wisconsin, Madison, is a part of the Federation of Canadian Artists, American Society of Portrait Artists, Pastel Society of Iowa, and Plein Air Painters of Iowa. Her work is in public and private collections in Europe, Canada, and the United States.
The ArtFactory is a project of Arts Iowa City. Our vision is to create a community arts center in Iowa City that includes classrooms, studios, a gallery and store, space for performances and private events, a commercial kitchen, coffee shop and wine bar. It’s a place for learning the arts from master teachers, for sharing equipment, and for meeting other art-loving people. To begin testing concepts, we have launched programming through our Art in the Afternoon series and Life Drawing offerings. Learn more at artifactory.artsiowacity.org.
