Join us for a visit and reading with Iowa author S.C. Sherman. His book is an historical fiction account set in the 1880s in Iowa City when a very bloody conflict developed between the prohibitionists and the three most powerful brewers in Iowa City—known as “the Beer Mafia.” These three well-known brewers were capitalizing from a growing population and an influx of immigrants from Germany, the Czech Republic, and Ireland, who loved their beer. Come along and hear how the clash of all these events in the Northside of town shaped America for a generation.

This program is offered in partnership with TRAIL of Johnson County.

Experience Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 in Iowa CityJune 10 - July 10th

The Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 red frames, each in the shape of a small house, set alongside one another will be placed in three main areas of the pedestrian mall. Inside each “casa”, there is a swing and a ring of lights lining the bottom. When the house is empty, the lights glow dimly to welcome the next visitor. Once someone steps inside, the lights release a more powerful glow, indicating that someone is home.
