Landlocked Film Festival will present an inspiring and educational event about how we can keep planet Earth beautiful by reducing, reusing, and recycling. The event will include a screening of the documentary film, Racing to Zero, a talk by Jen Jordan, Recycling Coordinator for the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, and a mini upcycling workshop. Light refreshments will be provided by New Pioneer Coop. The event is free and open to the public.
Racing to Zero (60 minutes) is a quick-moving, upbeat documentary presenting new solutions to the global problem of waste. By simply substituting the word RESOURCE for the word GARBAGE, a culture can be transformed, and a new wealth of industries can emerge. In 2010, the mayor of San Francisco pledged to achieve zero waste by 2020. Racing to Zero tracks San Francisco’s waste stream diversion tactics and presents innovative new solutions to waste. The film documents a surprising, engaging and inspiring race to zero.
Jen Jordan will talk about what’s in our landfill and some of the new waste reduction, recycling, and composting initiatives being implemented in Iowa City. After the talk, Jen will lead a workshop on making keychains from wine corks.
