Meet Iowa Artisans Gallery’s new owners, Patrick Carney, Kaylene Carney and Annie Temple, at this Gallery Party, which also gives founding owners a chance to say thank you to customers, artists, staff, the public and the downtown business community. The new ownership team will take the reins on May 1.
Patrick Carney is already a familiar face to Gallery customers, having worked there for 8 years on a part-time basis. He owns an Iowa City, family-run picture framing business, The Frame Station, in operation for over 30 years. He has also served on the City’s Art Advisory Committee. Kaylene Fitzpatrick Carney, has an extensive background in retail, marketing and event planning. Annie Williams Temple is a fiber artist and gallery owner in the Des Moines area. She, along with 3 other artists, owns and operates Artisans Gallery 218 in Valley Junction, West Des Moines.
Kaylene Carney comments, “the three of us are excited and very much looking forward to taking over the reins of this Iowa City landmark, all the while knowing we have some pretty big shoes to fill. The current owners have been an integral part of the arts community and Iowa City as a whole. We want to thank them for their dedication and support of the arts. Our goal is to build on that foundation while exploring new opportunities. We plan to use our combined experience and enthusiasm to keep the gallery moving forward in a positive direction.”
Iowa Artisans Gallery was founded in 1984 by twelve artists, specializing in contemporary American Craft, as a place to showcase their own work. Five of the original twelve owners are still active: Earlene Giglierano, Marilyn Davis, Christiane Knorr, Russell Karkowski and Don Rinner. Astrid Bennett is also an owner. Now in its third location, the award-winning Gallery has grown to represent nearly 200 artists from the US, with a handful from Canada. It occupies a premier, historic location in Iowa City’s iconic Paul-Helen Building and is an active participant in downtown events and activities.
Daily hours are Monday-Friday 10-6pm (later during the event); Saturday 10-5:30 and Sunday 12-4. For more information, please contact the Gallery at 319-351-8686.
