Influential Impact: The Cyclization of Black Films – A History of Black Films in Hollywood

INFLUENTIAL IMPACT: A Presentation covering the complete history of the black presence and participation in the film industry from William Foster’s “The Railroad Porter,” 1912, to today’s modern black filmic fare such as Selma, Malcolm X and The Black Panther.  Prominent black filmmakers past and present such as Oscar Micheaux, Spencer Williams, Jr., Ralph Cooper, Melvin Van Peebles, Julie Dash, Ava Duvernay, and Spike Lee are discussed within numerous thematic segments covering Race Movies, Early Black Musicals, Problem Pictures, the Blaxploitation Era, and the New Black Hollywood.  Actors including Paul Robeson, Hattie McDaniel, Sidney Poitier, Dorothy Dandridge, Richard Pryor, Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis are also discussed along with major movie stars of today such as Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, Idris Elba, Kerry Washington, and Michael B. Jordan.  Q&A session and book signing follow the 1-hour lecture and power point presentation.  Followed by a Retrospective Screening of Berry’s Film & Video Productions.
