K Iver & Paige Lewis

March 1, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Prairie Lights

K. Iver and Paige Lewis will read from their poetry.  Iver will read from Short Film Starring My Beloved’s Red Bronco, selected by Tyehimba Jess for the 2022 Ballard Spahr Prize for Poetry. “K. Iver’s Short Film … is a gleaming counter-narrative of gender, place, and class. Framed by grief and longing, the poet’s vivid and eclectic imagination sprawls through each poem, wrestling with mortality and ideas of transgression. The versatility of images, and the bright energy that pervades and suffuses this work, is a triumph.” –Tyehimba Jess

K. Iver is a nonbinary trans poet born in Mississippi. Their work has appeared in Boston Review, The Adroit, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere. They are the 2021-2022 Ronald Wallace Poetry Fellow for the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing. They have a Ph.D. in Poetry at Florida State University. They live in Madison, Wisconsin.

Paige Lewis will read from Space Struck. “This book of Paige Lewis’ poems plumbs emotions out of me that I did not know I could feel.” –Jonny Sun
Paige Lewis co-created and curated the YouTube channel Ours Poetica with author John Green. The channel aims to make poetry more accessible, especially to high school students.
Lewis received both their M.F.A. and Ph.D. in Creative Writing from Florida State University. Their poems have appeared in Poetry, American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Gulf Coast, The Massachusetts Review, The Georgia Review, The Rumpus, The Iowa Review, Poetry Northwest, Ninth Letter, and elsewhere. They teach at the University of Iowa and in the low-residency program at Randolph College.
