Kate Folk in conversation with Jamel Brinkley
May 19, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Prairie Lights Bookstore
Please join us for a reading and conversation with Kate Folk to celebrate the release of her new book Out There: Stories. She will be joined in conversation by Jamel Brinkley.
Chicago Review of Books says of Out There, “Stegner Fellow Kate Folk first caught the CHIRB’s notice, and everyone else’s, when the titular story appeared in The New Yorker a couple years back, which set up some big expectations for her debut collection. Luckily Folk’s ample imagination ably exceeds them with these eerily absurdist tales that offer a perfect encapsulation of our modern madnesses, like an Alice’s looking glass for our social media–obsessed age.”
Kate Folk is the author of Out There: Stories. She’s the recipient of a Stegner fellowship in fiction from Stanford University, and has written for publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Granta, McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, and Zyzzyva. Originally from Iowa City, she currently lives in San Francisco.
Jamel Brinkley is the author of A Lucky Man: Stories , a finalist for the National Book Award, the Story Prize, the John Leonard Prize, the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize, and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award; and winner of a PEN Oakland Award and the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence. Raised in Brooklyn and the Bronx, he teaches at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. A new short story collection, Witness , is forthcoming in 2023 from Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
