Lawn of the Poetic Everywhere: A Nature Poetry Workshop
August 14, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until August 28, 2022

MEETS IN PERSON
Over four weeks, we will immerse ourselves in the gorgeous gardens at PS1 N Gilbert to both read and write poetry. This site of fecundity will inspire writing about landscapes, trees, flowers,
and environmental justice. In situating our writing group at this public location, I hope to inviteus to consider, and attend to, our environment with both more deliberation, awe, and communal
engagement. How do we define public and how do public spaces make space for a multitude of experiences? What responsibility do we have to not just public space, but to our shared environment from an ecopoetic, antiracist stance? The group will receive a series of prompts and close reading exercises that explore sensory detail, metaphor, sonic texture, and embodied writing, as well as writings on ecopoetry. Meetings will include a mix of close reading & discussion, workshopping original pieces, free writing, and interacting with the surrounding garden.
Writers read may include, but are not limited to, Brian Teare, Rachel Betesh, Rosmarie Waldrop, Louise Glück, Jenny Odell, Sandra Lim, Jericho Brown, Paul Tran, Juliana Spahr, Layli Long Soldier, and Jennifer Joshua Espinoza.
