Learning Music with Guitar Pro 8

In this workshop, Victor will introduce using and making music with Guitar Pro 8, a notation software for editing and playing sheets of music.
Guitar Pro 8 works like a document editor but instead of using typesetting tools, users use music notation tools, symbols, beats, and music text, to put together a sheet of music that GP8 can then play back with digital instruments.
Patrons who attend this workshop will get an overview of how they might use notation software to learn guitar or to learn music in general, while also seeing what notation software and its tools can offer a learning musician. We’ll explore how GP8 allows us to design a sheet of music, isolate bars for practice, learn scales and arpeggios, and how we might combine all of our music knowledge together to make simple backing tracks of a few bars of chords.
This workshop is design for musicians of all levels. Beginners are more than welcome to attend. Even though some of the conversation in this workshop will involve a bit of musical vocabulary, Victor is more than happy to take questions about music theory, pause for explanations, and make on the fly examples to explain how to use and learn with Guitar Pro 8.
The Guitar Pro 8 software is available for use in the Digital Media Lab anytime we’re open.
Instructor: Victor, DML intern
Open to the public
