Mental Health and Cognition As We Age: Exercise @ Iowa City Senior Center | Iowa City | Iowa | United States

This program is for older adults who are interested in understanding more about the relationship between physical exercise and higher-level cognitive processes across the lifespan. In this program, the presenter will address differences between the impact of physical activity and fitness on cognition in young and older adults, protective factors of exercise that can slow natural age-related declines in learning and memory, and discuss current trends in research on the therapeutic efficacy of exercise on preventing dementia. The facilitator will also briefly discuss the limitations of contemporary research, the role of traumatic brain injuries and concussions sustained during exercise on cognition, and outlooks for future brain research.

This program is facilitated by Devon Dawson, Doctoral Trainee in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa.
