Mary Ann and Jack traveled to India during the summer of 2017 as part of a service learning and cultural studies class. The class was offered through Kirkwood Community College. Most of the time was spent in Dharamsala, which contains distinct Indian and Tibetan communities. Upper Dharamsala is the home of the Dalai Lama. In the mornings they volunteered in a pre-school and special needs school. In the afternoons they visited a variety of educational, religious, and cultural sites. A weekend trip included a visit to Amritsar, home of the Golden temple, the holiest sit in the Sikh religion, and the India-Pakistan Wagah border ceremony. Come and learn more about this fascinating country.
