Downtown Iowa City as a center of commerce, education, and government, is a unique natural and built environment. Building owners, architects, and builders have responded to evolving opportunities and needs by designing and constructing stylistically typical and unique buildings. By participating in this single session class, participants will become familiar with the chronological architectural development of downtown. Learning objectives are to understand the outside and local influences on the development of downtown Iowa City, to differentiate between architectural stylistic expressions over time, and to articulate why this unique place is so important. The two-hour class will include a mid-session break.
