What is money? When did it come into existence, how has it evolved, what is its purpose and what is its impact on other aspects of civilizations? Proposed answers to these questions will be presented in a two part series that traces the evolution of money through the history of the world in general and the United States in particular. We will examine what money really is, what forms it has taken throughout time, what its functions and characteristics have been, and how it has changed over the centuries. We will look at the evolution of money beginning with the barter economy and moving on through commodity money, metallic money, paper money, and electronic money. How money affects every aspect of everyone’s life will be surprising. Membership required.
