Join us for a screening of the True Cost, an enlightening expose on fast fashion, followed by panel discussion and trunk show!
10 AM- Film Screening (suggested $5 donation). Here’s a short blurb about the movie: “This is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact the industry is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. The True Cost is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on the untold story and asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing?”
You can watch a trailer of the movie here: http://truecostmovie.com/ (The full movie is also available on Netflix to stream).
11:30 AM- Panel Discussion. Cassidy Bell, TTV; Ritu Jain, Textiles; Sheila Davisson, Revival; Jen Jordan, City of Iowa City. Since the film is long on problems and short on solutions our focus during this panel will be to look for creative ways to impact the industry in a positive fashion. What can we do to shop smarter?
12 PM- We will host a trunk show featuring items from Global Mamas in Ghana. Global Mamas is made up of an extremely talented group of makers and designers and offers great benefits to their staff. You can learn more and check out some of their clothes here: http://www.globalmamas.org/.
