Color our world, and celebrate diverse cultures from around the globe! Every Wednesday during our Summer Reading Program, elementary-age kids are invited to join us for a new event where they can explore and experience unique cultures and traditions from different countries.
Worry dolls, or muñecas quitapenas, are tiny, hand-crafted dolls from the Mayan areas of Guatemala and Mexico. The indigenous people created Worry Dolls many generations ago as a remedy for worrying. According to the Mayan legend, when worrying keeps someone awake, they tell a worry to their worry doll, then place it under their pillow. The dolls take their worries away and let them sleep peacefully through the night. Join us today learning more about this interesting therapeutic tradition and creating your own worry dolls with clothespins, thread, and markers. Each kid can make one doll.
