World Wednesdays are the perfect opportunity to learn about and celebrate world cultures! Each week we will learn by doing with a craft, game or activity that explores a different part of the world. School age children are invited to join us online, and/or with a Take & Make Kit to be picked up from the library ahead of time, for an activity that will help us learn and understand something new about different world cultures.

Kasuti embroidery is a type of hand embroidery that originates from Karnatak in India. There are many traditional kasuti embroidery patterns and common motifs such as the lotus flower, and many are inspired by temples in the Karnatak region. Older elementary age children are invited to learn how to create this simple lotus flower pattern by The Spruce Crafts via Zoom.

This event is open to the public.

Experience Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 in Iowa CityJune 10 - July 10th

The Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 red frames, each in the shape of a small house, set alongside one another will be placed in three main areas of the pedestrian mall. Inside each “casa”, there is a swing and a ring of lights lining the bottom. When the house is empty, the lights glow dimly to welcome the next visitor. Once someone steps inside, the lights release a more powerful glow, indicating that someone is home.
