Director of Member Engagement    

BACKGROUND

The Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1936 and is currently 800 members strong.  Serving Johnson County, with a population of over 130,000, our mission is to actively foster a better business environment.  Recently recognized as one of the Top 25 Coolest Places to Work by our regional business journal, our team of six is proud to have a work environment that is collaborative, respectful, fun and funny.  We are looking for an additional team member who has a passion for this community, customer service mindset, collaborative workstyle, continuous improvement drive, and a sense of humor!

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & SPECIFIC DUTIES

The Director of Member Engagement serves as the lead sales and retention manager for the Chamber.  The primary responsibilities of the position are to:
1)      Sell memberships and sponsorships
2)      Retain memberships and sponsorships
3)      Oversee the Ambassador program
4)      Maintain any data and metrics relevant to sales and retention
5)      Provide leadership, management, and accountability
6)      Live the organization’s values

Specific duties within these areas include:

Sell memberships and sponsorships

  • Develop annual sales plan and meet monthly, quarterly, and annual goals established in the plan
  • Identify and manage pipeline for lead generation
  • Conduct sales meetings/calls
  • Lead sales effort for annual fall sponsorship campaign and membership drive

Retain memberships and sponsorships

  • Develop and maintain a member retention plan and implement/manage all aspects of the plan (from new member onboarding to engagement strategies to retention of at-risk members)
  • Meet established annual retention goals
  • Seek opportunities to up-sell
  • Serve as main point of contact for prospect and member inquiries and ensure requests are met

Oversee the Ambassador program

  • Develop annual program plan with executive committee
  • Coordinate and help run monthly executive committee, sub-committee, and full program meetings
  • Coordinate program processes (recruiting, application/selection, onboarding, awarding/incentivizing, offboarding)
  • Conduct training sessions
  • Keep Ambassadors informed of important Chamber activities

Maintain any data and metrics relevant to sales and retention

  • Maintain detailed notes on prospect and member interactions in WebLink customer relationship management system
  • Maintain a system to track and report on leads, sales progress, etc.
  • Track and review relevant sales and retention metrics

Provide leadership, management, and accountability
·       Independently lead special initiatives within sales/retention function
·       Hire/manage vendors, contractors, interns, etc. when necessary to get the work done
·       Track and report-on weekly and quarterly goals
·       Represent the Chamber at events and functions
·       Participate in shaping the future direction of the organization

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in sales; fundraising; account management; or other applicable area of focus, including professions based on building strong relationships
  • Applicants with experience from all sectors (public, private, non-profit) are welcome
  • Experience with people management (staff or volunteers)
  • Experience selling non-tangible things such as services, programs, sponsorships, etc.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
·       Knowledge of sales processes and strategies; demonstrated aptitude via results
·       Knowledge of community preferred
·       Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
·       Ability to work with a wide variety of people, from small businesses owners to CEOs of large companies
·       Ability to work with a wide variety of businesses of varying sizes (small, medium, large), types (for-profit, non-profit, start-up, public sector, etc.), and industries (health care, education, manufacturing, financial, retail, etc.)
·       Ability to clearly articulate and present an organization’s mission, vision, values, and value propositions
·       Ability to occasionally travel and work non-traditional hours
·       Ability to live the organization’s values

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a base plus commission and benefits.
