We are seeking a Theater Manager to work as part of a team to provide leadership for the overall operational needs of all productions and events. They will support the Artistic Director (AD) in executing event coordination, communication, and logistics for The James Theater, a flexible 200-person capacity performance and events venue located on the Northside of Iowa City, labeled “The Greatest Small City for the Arts.”

Specifically, this person will:

  • Supervise daily administrative operations and collaborate with AD and renters in executing events, including scheduling of FOH staff
  • Schedules, coordinates, and supervises the use of the theater
  • Supervision of all box office employees and bartending staff, being the point person for point of sale, opening and closing theater space, and communicating with outside vendors
  • Work with renter to ensure all technical needs are met for performances including the coordination of equipment and additional rentals if needed
  • Build a positive relationship with community, donors, sponsors, public officials and other arts organizations
  • Field all general inquiries and serve as point of contact through email and telephone
  • Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the productions

Qualifications:

  • Current knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Google Suites.
  • Must have strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to creatively problem solve and prioritize urgent matters.
  • Ability to work efficiently, have excellent time management skills and be highly organized

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous management experience
  • Technical theater experience

Hours and Pay:

Start Date: November 2022
Compensation: $20/hour, flexible hours, varied depending on weekly theater needs (salary negotiable at 3 months)
