$8 – $13David Lynch was a singular artist who never compromised his unique vision and inspired generations of artists across media—an artist whose name created a genre. His sudden passing left the cinematic world in shock. Throughout the years, we have often showcased his body of work and will continue to feature it for new generations to appreciate. In this brief tribute to the legendary filmmaker, we’re highlighting two of his most famous films and one that we have never screened. Join us in celebrating a director that The Atlantic called, “perhaps the most consequential American art filmmaker in the history of the medium.”
In his first collaboration in an over 40-year creative partnership with David Lynch, Kyle Maclachlan stars as intergalactic warrior Paul Atreides, following his messianic rise to leadership. This much debated adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction epic was the first to put the story on the big screen, and whether or not you think the film is a complete success, there’s no denying Lynch’s rich imagination on display. With gorgeous practical effects and set design, music by Toto, monster creation by Carlo Rambaldi (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), and Sting as Feyd Rautha, there’s something for everyone to get excited about.
