Iowa City Downtown District Celebrates Past Year’s Successes & Previews What’s to Come for Downtown
The Iowa Downtown District (ICDD) will host their annual State of the Downtown meeting on Wednesday, June 5th, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the historic Englert Theatre. The event invites the community, civic leaders, business partners, and Downtown members to hear highlights from the organization and the future focus of the self-supported municipal improvement district. Tickets to attend the meeting are on sale now for $40 and can be purchased online.
A short program from ICDD leadership will begin at 5:30 p.m. One of the highlights of the evening will celebrate the progress of ICDD’s programs and initiatives over the past year. Guest will get a first-hand look at ICDD’s work surrounding business retention and attraction, public art, the District’s special events and event series, the hard work of Downtown businesses, and the progress of the Dubuque Street Reconstruction Project which is anticipated to be completed this fall.
The meeting will unveil the organization’s annual mission report. For 2024, the report offers insights into the latest visitation data and numbers, current trend statistics, the status of key initiatives and programs from the organization, and a look into the exciting investments planned for the upcoming year, including the new Downtown Iowa City Ambassadors Program done in partnership with the City of Iowa City and managed by Block by Block.
The State of the Downtown will serve as an occasion to celebrate the dedicated leadership of Betsy Potter, who has served as the Executive Director of ICDD over the past year. “As we look to the next chapter of Downtown Iowa City, the achievements and groundwork laid in the past year pave the way for more dynamic partnerships and projects,” said Betsy Potter, Executive Director of ICDD. “With bold planning and collective determination, we’re ready to embrace this momentum and expand upon the initiatives and collaborations that will further elevate our Downtown, making it a place of innovation and inclusivity for all.”
Attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments during the meeting with food from Pullman Bar & Diner, dessert from Nodo Downtown, and beverages provided by The Englert Theatre.
