Kurt Friese Memorial Fundraiser For Local Food

September 18 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Kurt Michael Friese, chef, local food advocate and Johnson County Supervisor, was sadly taken from us in 2018. In order to honor Kurt and to carry forward his work and passions, we are presenting a memorial fundraiser in his name to benefit two local non-profits that Kurt co-founded. Those two groups are Field to Family and Slow Food Heartland. Kurt was also a huge fan of local music so we thought it would be fitting to have a benefit concert…

Soccer Mommy w/ Squirrel Flower @The Mill

September 18 @ 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Soccer Mommy is the project of twenty-year-old Sophie Allison, a Nashville native. She cut her teeth in her local DIY scene, going to shows and hanging out with other musicians, though she kept her own songwriting secret. “I’ve played music since I was six,” says Allison, “and I always wrote songs just for myself. I did it for fun, posting songs on Tumblr, Bandcamp, and Soundcloud. I didn’t think anyone would notice.” All that changed the summer before Allison left…

Joseph w/ Deep Sea Diver @Englert Theatre

September 19 @ 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

The sophomore effort from Oregon-bred trio Joseph, Good Luck, Kid is a road movie in album form, an odyssey at turns emotional, existential, and entirely literal. With their intimate storytelling and restless intensity, Natalie Schepman and her sisters Allison and Meegan Closner detail that journey in songs that careen and sprawl and often soar, ultimately spinning a narrative of life-changing transformation. “The through-line of the album is this idea of moving into the driver’s seat of your own life—recognizing that you’re the…

Theresa Rosetta is a 25-year-old Dubuque, IA local musician. She started performing at a small coffee shop in her home town in 2016, and now plays around the Tri-State area. After spending 4-5 years learning guitar, she began singing and writing songs. Her first album is set to release mid-2019!

Charley Bliss @ Gabes

September 20 @ 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Led by the distinctively perky voice of singer and guitarist Eva Hendricks, indie rock outfit Charly Bliss are indebted to the catchy alt-rock of '90s bands like Weezer and, more on point, Veruca Salt. After struggling early on to find the right balance of their grungy rock and tendency toward bright pop hooks, they decided the two could coexist and emerged with their full-length debut, Guppy, in 2017. They shifted the balance toward pop on 2019's Young Enough.

Joe Pug w/ Dead Horses @The Mill

September 20 @ 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Joe Pug’s new record “The Flood In Color” is nearly four years in the making. But that betrays the fact that the making of the album was one of the most natural and rewarding processes of his career. Produced by Kenneth Pattengale of The Milk Carton Kids and engineered by Matt Ross-Spang, the album started with the goal of focusing on the simplicity of musicians playing together, live, in the same room. Recently relocating back to his childhood home in…
