Community Ofrenda (Altar De Muertos)

October 30 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Wednesday, October 30, 2024 –6:00pm to 8:00pm

Teen Center

Día de los Muertos, a holiday with roots in pre-Columbian, particularly Aztec, culture, is celebrated today primarily in Mexico and parts of Central America, such as Guatemala and El Salvador. Similar traditions exist in other countries like the Philippines, where it is celebrated as Undás, and in other parts of Latin America with varying influences.
This event is the culmination of everything our middle and high school participants have created over the month to display on a community ofrenda; an offering showcasing a remembrance of those no longer with us. We celebrate their lives and commemorate their spirit through candles, their favorite foods, flowers and photographs.
Though teens have been preparing for this event, all are welcome to contribute memories of their loved ones.
We’ll meet in the Teen Room at 6pm and bring items to the first floor for the final display. Enjoy traditional breads and music as we put up the ofrenda.

If you need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event, please contact the Library.

This event is open to the public.
