Downtown is the place to be this weekend if you're looking to embrace your creative side and appreciate some fine art. The Summer Gallery walk is tomorrow with 20+ shops and galleries curating works of art from local artists. Enjoy a self-guided tour and chance to win a $50 gift card. For the first time, the @uistanleymuseum will be joining the Gallery Walk! Take an early stop from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and enjoy the museum's recent acquisition of Willie Cole’s Two-Faced Blues along with music from the Blake Shaw Duo.

For more artistic fun, make sure to visit @summerofthearts’s 40th Annual Iowa Arts Festival. Lots of announcements this week from downtown Iowa City. After ten years, Downtown District Executive Director, Nancy Bird, has accepted a new position as the CEO /President of the merged entity of the Iowa City Area Business Partnership (Business Partnership) and Iowa City Area Development (ICAD).

To fill this role, the ICDD Executive Committee & Board of Directors voted today by unanimous vote to appoint Betsy Potter as the organization's next Executive Director. Potter's experience in the Director of Creative Services and the assistant ED roles that included managing District communications, marketing campaigns, retail programs, overseeing events like the Downtown Block Party and developing public art initiatives.

The leadership transition has also led to another staffing change to position the organization for success. Veteran staff Christopher Hunter, the organization's Director of Special Events will transition into the role of Director of Marketing. Hunter has been assisting in the marketing and promotions for the ICDD over his 6 years of employment and his years contracting for photography prior to that. The new promotion will allow him to expand his skills in photography and social media management for larger marketing initiatives planned for the upcoming year.

Although the Summer Shop Crawl is sold out, a lot of your favorite shops and boutiques will be open late until 8:00pm. While your’e downtown, make sure to stop by the Ped Mall to jive with the Liberty, City, and West High School Jazz Ensembles for @summerofthearts Friday Night Concert Series. The show begins at 6:30pm.

ICDD invites you to join the customer loyalty program Local Rewards! Previously known as SIMPERKS, ICDD has rebranded and refined the program for customers and stores to continue to use. Customers with existing accounts will carry their points over to Local Rewards.

Once you join a store’s rewards platform, you will have access to join other reward programs and receive bonus points for signing on to each. Shops customize their offerings to patrons independently allowing them to redeem those points only at that specific store. The more you buy at participating stores, the more points you can redeem for discounts, free products, rewards, or more inside perks.
