Public Space One (PS1) is an artist-led, community-driven, nonprofit contemporary art center with 3 historic houses in downtown Iowa City, IA. Founded in 2002, PS1 provides an independent and inclusive space for making and presenting art, holding workshops, and hosting residencies. In addition to the gallery and numerous unique offerings, PS1 encompasses the Iowa City Press Coop, the Center for Afrofuturist Studies (a fully-funded residency and programming initiative supporting artists of color), and the Media Arts Co-op (community access to media production equipment, education, and resources). PS1 is the central hub for artists and cultural producers in eastern Iowa.
