(Iowa City, IA – March 3, 2025) Public Space One’s ORBITAL SONGS benefit art auction opened Feb 28th online and in person at PS1 Close house. The annual fundraiser culminates in a closing reception (and “open mic” talent show) this Saturday night (6-8p).
Public Space One (PS1) is proud to announce the return of its annual art auction exhibition for 2025, Orbital Songs, running Feb 28 – March 8, with much gratitude to Blick Art Materials as the presenting sponsor.
Featuring around 90 artists, the art auction is both one of PS1’s major fundraisers to support year-round arts programming and resources, and a robust and diverse exhibition of a cross-section of local and Iowa-connected artists. This year’s auction will be on display at PS1’s Close House location (538 S. Gilbert St.) from Feb 28 – March 8, with all bidding online (www.publicspaceone.com/auction).
We encourage all to visit the exhibition, whether they’re in the market for art or not – the range of artists spans disciplines and generations of local (or locally-connected) arts practitioners. Bidding is live online now through the evening of March 8 (8p) (direct auction link here).
We are also partnered with several organizers including Weaving Our Community Network, Dana Egan Choreography, and Song*lines to benefit DVIP during opening weekend performances. The following performances generated +$650 towards DVIP):
- March 1: Orbital Waves (One Night Show) – An evening of Burlesque, drag, dance, and poetry featuring: Dana Egan • Lady Lovebug • Diggi • JAHN • OG Roody • Wilsee Kollie • Miss Conduct • Samm Yu
- March 2: SONG*LINES (a community sing) – The 3rd stop of the SONG*LINES Project, a series of local song circles hosted by Grant Wood Fellow Lyndsey Scott to nourish the thriving of local community-building organizations and cross-pollinate new connections. We continue to encourage direct donations to DVIP.
- March 3-8: Multiple opportunities to view the expansive exhibition in person. Close house gallery hours this week are:
- Tues. March 4, 6-8p
- Wed, March 5, 6-8p
- Thurs. March 6, 6-8p
- Fri. March 7, 11a-1p
- Sat. March 8, 11a-1p
- March 8: Second Saturdays & Closing Reception and Talent Show
A family-friendly, Second Saturday (freestyle stitching!) and Art Social will take place on the last day, March 8 from 11a-1p. The fundraiser auction will end that evening: Saturday, March 8th, with a closing reception and talent show 6-8 pm. The auction will conclude online March 8 at 8p.

The collected and exquisitely distinct art objects have been offered to the public in an effort to support PS1’s programming at this crucial time. Buying an artwork will not only support PS1 and our contributing artists, but helps solidify cultural praxis on a local level. This year’s auction has something for everyone, from traditional works (drawings, paintings, prints, tapestries) to a jean-jacket
embroidery commission to nature sound boxes (and all points, media, and genre in between).
