Iowa City, IA (January 14, 2025) – The Wedge Pizzeria, a cherished Iowa City staple since 1999, is thrilled to announce its return to Downtown Iowa City. Now located at 113 Iowa Avenue, in the former Bender’s space, The Wedge officially reopened on January 8, 2025, bringing its signature pizzas, scratch-made desserts, and inclusive menu options back to the heart of the city.
The Wedge has long been a local favorite, originally founded by Steve Harding and later sold to Michael Harris and Regina Miller in 2022. Over the years, The Wedge has relocated several times, from its original Riverside Drive spot to 521 Hwy 1 West in 2020. This move to Iowa Avenue marks a homecoming for The Wedge, which operated a downtown location in the Ped Mall from 2008 to 2014. After nearly a decade away, the pizzeria is excited to once again serve the vibrant downtown district and reconnect with the Iowa City community.
“Moving downtown will bring us whole new challenges,” says owner Michael Harris, “but I believe we can grow and become even more a part of the community. We’re thrilled to get to know the students and residents who live and work downtown, and we’re excited to make a home in the heart of Iowa City.”
At the new location, The Wedge is focusing on pizza by the slice, catering to the fast-paced downtown atmosphere and offering a quick and affordable option for University of Iowa students and nearby residents. Carry-out and delivery services for Iowa City and Coralville will continue, ensuring the community can enjoy The Wedge wherever they are.
Customers can still enjoy signature menu favorites like the Nutcracker, Love Supreme, and Red Baron, as well as vegan and gluten-free options that have become a key part of the menu. Additionally, scratch-made desserts—including cookies, cakes, pies, and cheesecakes—remain a highlight of the offerings.
As The Wedge settles into its new downtown home, it invites both longtime fans and new patrons to experience its dedication to fresh, high-quality food in a welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere.
