Iowa City Downtown District Brings Back Fan Favorites & Additional Programming for the Event of the Summer
(Iowa City, IA) – April 30, 2024 – The Iowa City Downtown District announced Tuesday, the return of the 7th Annual Downtown Block Party set for Saturday, June 22, 2024. As one of the area’s largest festivals, the Downtown Block Party will continue its tradition of celebrating Downtown Iowa City and the existing nighttime economy with a full lineup of free programming and unique activities. Although programming is free for the community to enjoy, tickets for the event cup and wristband are now available for pre-sale online at a discounted rate.
New programming for 2024 includes a new Power Bungee Jump Trampoline for adventurous attendees, a 9-hole light-up mini putt-putt course, custom t-shirt screen printing, pickleball tournaments, and an Olympic-themed fashion show. Returning by popular demand are crowd favorites including the Studio 13 Drag Show, Dueling Pianos sponsored by Hills Bank, Silent Disco sponsored by GreenState Credit Union, and the SCWPro Wrestling matches. Joining in the festivities are esteemed community partners such as the Iowa Children’s Museum, Iowa City Public Library, Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department, Wright House of Fashion, Iowa City Senior Center, Stanley Museum of Art, Iowa Chess Association, and the University of Iowa, offering an array of engaging activities. These entities will facilitate community activities like the fashion show, video game tournaments, pickleball, a kid’s area with Lego blocks and bubbles, and so much more.
As always, the Downtown Block Party remains accessible to everyone, with all programming offered free of charge. The only ticket and paid feature is for those wishing to partake in the unique opportunity to take beer and wine from downtown restaurants, bars, and businesses to the streets to enjoy alongside the programming elements. Attendees are required to have the official Downtown Block Party event wristband and cup to partake in the open container option of the event. Event cups and wristbands are available now for pre-sale online at the exclusive price of $10. Tickets will increase to $15 the day of the event and will be available for purchase at any of the cup stations throughout the event footprint.
