Marc Dickinson & Kyle McCord
February 13 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Atmosphere Press authors Mark Dickinson and Kyle McCord will read from Replacement Parts and Reunion of the Good Weather Suicide Cult . Marc Dickinson will read from his linked short story collection, Replacement Parts. “There are no holds barred in Marc Dickinson’s rich and fearless collection of stories. He dives deep in America’s dark soul—the addictions, the detentions, the diseases, the layoffs, the divided communities—and returns to the surface with pure gold. The closer Dickinson brings us to tragedy, the more he attunes us to the beauty and kindness that might save us all. You will come away from this book wiser, more compassionate, and more hopeful.” -Bonnie Jo Campbell
Marc Dickinson’s stories have appeared in Shenandoah, Cream City Review, North American Review, Greensboro Review, Chattahoochee Review, Beloit Fiction Journal, South Dakota Review, and American Literary Review (as winner of the ALR Fiction Prize). He received an MFA from Colorado State University and now lives in Iowa with his wife and two children, where he teaches creative writing at Des Moines Area Community College and coordinates the long-running reading series, Celebration of the Literary Arts.
Kyle McCord will read from Reunion of the Good Weather Suicide Cult, in which we see how well-meaning people seeking spiritual community can become ensnared in webs of intrigue and deadly manipulation. Through the lens of a Netflix documentary as well as one man’s personal struggle, this book takes readers on a journey through the dark heart of a simple Iowa commune gone horribly wrong.
