Do we all tweet alike? Our world is structured through our relationships with technology and culture, and Dr. Brock studies the ways Blackness is created through online interactions. Dr. Brock shows how being Black online is more than outrage, stereotype, or appropriation. Drawing on recent examples of Blackness as digital phenomena, like “Blackfishing” and “Digital Blackface,” Dr. Brock argues that Black Twitter is an exemplar of Black cyberculture: digital practice and artifacts informed by a Black aesthetic. His journey to becoming an award-winning professor of Black online culture will also be part of his presentation.
There will be an hour-long presentation followed by a welcoming reception.
