Here’s another look at the most recent episode of Here’s another look at the most recent episode of The Downtown Dish, giving us a deeper look at Club Hancher, a smaller venue known for its relaxed atmosphere and eclectic lineup of performances, from jazz and comedy to experimental music and spoken word.

Andre Perry, Executive Director of @uihancher and @performingartsatiowa, joins the podcast to share how the venue makes arts accessible, affordable, and inviting. Tickets are typically around $20, with student discounts available, lowering the barrier to entry and encouraging curiosity in the community.

While the episode dives into Hancher’s impact on downtown arts, Club Hancher opens its doors tonight for the @stoptimefestival with a performance by @mei_semones, a Brooklyn-based artist blending jazz and indie pop with lyrics in English and Japanese, performs her genre-bending music.

🎳 Big news for Downtown Iowa City! Bowling is comi 🎳 Big news for Downtown Iowa City! Bowling is coming back downtown, and we couldn’t be more excited. A local business owner has officially purchased the former SpareMe space, bringing new life to this location as Barker’s Bowling, a reimagined entertainment destination.

The updated venue will feature a diner-inspired menu with classic favorites like burgers, fries, ice cream, and shakes, paired with a full lineup of entertainment, from bowling and pool tables to shuffleboard and a new dance floor. With space for live performances and plenty of room to gather, it’s designed as a place to come together, unwind, and enjoy everything from casual afternoons to lively nights out.

This kind of investment keeps downtown vibrant, welcoming, and full of things to do from day to night, while ensuring this space continues to be a destination for all ages to connect and create shared experiences. We can’t wait to see it come back to life as a go-to community gathering spot.

Stay tuned for renovation updates and a grand reopening planned for later this summer! 🎉
