National Scrabble Day (April 13th) celebrates the birth of the game’s creator, American architect Alfred Mosher Butts. Conceived in 1933, it took until 1948 for the game to become the SCRABBLE game we know and love. Join the Iowa City Public Library and The Iowa City Scrabble Club to celebrate National Scrabble Day with an afternoon of Scrabble. All ages and skill levels are invited! Bring a board if you have one, but it’s not required – we’ll have extras.

If you need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event, please contact the Library.

This event is open to the public.

Experience Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 in Iowa CityJune 10 - July 10th

The Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 red frames, each in the shape of a small house, set alongside one another will be placed in three main areas of the pedestrian mall. Inside each “casa”, there is a swing and a ring of lights lining the bottom. When the house is empty, the lights glow dimly to welcome the next visitor. Once someone steps inside, the lights release a more powerful glow, indicating that someone is home.
