The main objective of this unique workshop is to provide participants with methodical training in basic dry charcoal drawing and ultra-modern painting with liquid charcoal solely and in combination with watercolors. You will learn the basics of the reductive and additive techniques through observation and still-life practices of charcoal drawing and painting. The first few activities will focus on drawing fundamentals, such as line, shape, composition, motion, rhythm, interaction, harmony, contrast value, proportions, and perspectives. This will be followed by a series of instructions geared towards all levels. Previous experience is not required. Fee: $150 ($112.50 for participants in ICSC’s low-income membership program); pay instructor. Membership required.
Required materials to bring to class:
-Conte Charcoal pencils: H, HB, B, 2B
-Ken Bromley Nitram Liquid Charcoal 50 ml tube
-Arches 75% Cotton Sketch paper pad, 9″ x 12″, 20 white sheets; or Strathmore 500 series Charcoal pad, 9″ x 12″, 24 white sheets
-A set of watercolor, 12 or 24
-A set of Temu 10 pcs Master level watercolor brushes
-Gum erasers
-Strathmore Newsprint pad, 18″ x 24″
-Ken Bromley Nitram HB & Nitram B Charcoal pencils (optional)
