Elizabeth Metzger, Julia Anna Morrison, and Catherine Pond

November 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Prairie Lights

Los Angeles Review of Books poetry editor Elizabeth Metzger will read from Lying In. “A book orbiting sacrifice, orbiting the way(s) one generation gives life then gives way to the next. . . Elizabeth Metzger has become one of my favorite living poets.”- Kaveh Akbar

Metzger is the author of The Spirit Papers, winner of the Juniper Prize for Poetry, and the chapbook Bed. Her poems have been published in the New Yorker, Paris Review, Poetry, American Poetry Review, The Nation, and Poem-a-Day. She lives in California.

Pushcart-nominated poet and screenwriter Julia Anna Morrison will read from her new book from Moon City Press, Long Exposure, winner of the 2022 Moon City Press Poetry Award. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Morrison’s poems have appeared in Best American Poetry 2022, The Adroit Journal, EX/POST, and Brink and placed 3rd in Narrative’s 14th Annual Poetry Contest. She is a Lecturer in Screenwriting Arts at the University of Iowa and co-edits Two Peach with Catherine Pond.

Finalist for the National Poetry Series Catherine Pond will read from Fieldglass, winner of the Crab Orchard First Book Prize. “Pond’s scintillating debut examines family history, female friendship, geography, and sexual identity in poems of startling craft and vision. Throughout, poems accumulate and echo off one another, unveiling a distinctive and highly perceptive queer identity on the page.”– Publishers Weekly

Pond’s poems have appeared in Best New Poets, Best American Nonrequired Reading, Essential Queer Voices of U.S. Poetry, AGNI, Salmagundi, The Adroit Journal, and Narrative. She is a PhD candidate (ABD) in Literature & Creative Writing at the University of Southern California, where she teaches writing.
