BLAM! The Englert Local Showcase Series is BACK in 2024 and woo baby this first bill is going to knock your freakin’ socks off.
Jan. 13th — Bootcamp, I Will, Bovinophobic Bile Puddle
Iowa City hardcore supergroup, Bootcamp, will take the historic Englert stage hot off an INTERNATIONAL tour (represent). Iowa City high school sludge lords Bovinophobic Bile Puddle will also be tearing down the Englert roof (figuratively). Last and most certainly not least… and no… your eyes do not deceive you… the almighty I WILL is BACK with his deliciously distorted and heavy offerings (blessed).
Jan. 27th — Kay Killa, Deb Talan, Jim Swim
In the UNESCO City of Lit, we take our wordsmiths VERY seriously. For this edition of the Englert Local Showcase Series we’ll be celebrating some of the finest lyricists among us: Kay Killa, Jim Swim, and Deb Talan. Coincidentally, we’ll also be celebrating Deb Talan’s birthday (everyone say HBD DT)!
Kay Killa is a Liberty High student by day and a burgeoning rap artist by the eve time (LET’S GO YOUTH). Jim Swim is a prolific indie hip-hop hit generator and master of the flow (LET’S GO POET) . Last but most certainly not least we’ll be joined by the revered folk storyteller and beloved bday baddie, Deb Talan (C’MON SONGSTRESS).
Feb. 10th — Halfloves, Early Girl, Spirit Awake
The Englert was once on fire in 1926 and it’s about to be again in 2024… we give you IOWA INDIE ROCK AND ROLL NIGHT!
Heating up with the night is Spirit Awake representing Kirkwood College with a tasty, grungy, alt-rock sound. Early Girl will be kicking up the heat heat HEAT with their power pop bangerz and baddie supreme attitudes. Rounding out the evening is the legendary Iowa indie institution, Halfloves. The rock and roll tradition is strong with this one.

The Englert’s local showcase series is back with three serotonin-packed shows ready to give your Winter blues a shock to the system.
The Local Showcase ‘24 programming panel includes Justin Comer (production), Erin Durian (box office), Ashlee Hopkins (front of house), Kory May (development), and Elisabeth Oster (marketing).
This cross-departmental team created a set of criteria to be followed for each individual show:
Connect young artists with seasoned vets
Cross multiple genres while maintaining a sonic flow
Fold various scenes together to create a greater sense of community
