Instructor: Louis DeGrazia

This course will examine the role and influence of Exegesis in the major Biblical and theological concepts of Creation; Sin and Fall; Suffering and Evil; the Virgin Birth of Jesus and miracles; the Resurrection of Jesus from death; the Incarnation and self-understanding of Jesus; and how to understand Eschatology and the end of time. Of course these are the primary theological motifs of the Bible and they form the foundation of Christian Belief and Creeds. When one exposes these Creeds to Exegesis, that is to historical and literary and redaction criticism, the tools of scholarly investigation, what does it reveal about their meaning? Does such examination influence what the Creeds really say? Should scholarly investigation take precedence over traditional faith? Or does faith have a trump card over academic perusal? Is it best to say faith takes over when reason no longer adequately explains? Exegesis invites us into these important questions. Let’s see where it takes us. Register for either the morning or afternoon session. Membership required.
