Flight Around the World to End Polio
February 22 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
FreeThursday, February 22, 1:00-2:00 pm
Location: Hybrid (Room 302 & Zoom)
Presenters: John Ockenfels and Peter Teahan, local pilots
Our presenters, local pilots John Ockenfels and Peter Teahan, left Cedar Rapids in May to fly around the world in a private plane. The purpose of this flight was to raise awareness of polio as a world health problem and to raise money for the eradication of the deadly disease. The pilots made over 30 stops around the world where locals hosted receptions and fundraisers, resulting in over $1.5 million in donations. Learn how two ordinary men with an extraordinary vision made an incredible impact in eradicating polio around the world. Co-sponsored by the Iowa City Senior Center and TRAIL of Johnson County.
