“Journey through the Athena Series”: Artist Exhibition & Talk by Laura Hopkins
December 15, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeFriday, Dec 15, 2-3 pm
Location: Assembly Room
In this program, artist and chemical engineer Laura Hopkins will discuss works from her art exhibition, Journey through the Athena Series, which will be displayed at the Senior Center in December and January. Over two decades ago, Laura Hopkins found herself immersed in the challenge of defining new territory in applied mathematics. She knew she was adrift somewhere between design (architecture) and construction (engineering), and needed to find a place to study both. She now calls this place in mathematics “Civilization’s Glass Ceiling.” Laura established The Sable Sabot, her textile arts studio, to study that place. Today she holds publications, copyrights, and trade secrets in four different academic arenas. “The Journey through the Athena Series exhibit allows me to conclude a life-long career challenge. A difficult but fascinating adventure, it is time to share it with the world and see what happens.” Laura’s work is an extraordinary example of creativity, initiative, and a pioneering female spirit.
