Kate Folk in conversation with Rachel Yoder–Sky Daddy

April 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

San Francisco-based (former Iowa Citian!) Kate Folk will read from her new novel, Sky Daddy, and be joined in conversation by  bestselling Nightbitch author Rachel Yoder. Centered on a character named Linda who “knows that she can’t tell anyone she’s sexually obsessed with planes,” Sky Daddy “hijacks the classic love story, exploring desire, fate, and the longing to be accepted for who we truly are” (penguinrandomhouse.com). Rachel Yoder praises Sky Daddy as “surprisingly tender” and “deliciously weird,” while Gary Shteyngart, author of Our Country Friends, says: “This is the craziest, funniest book I’ve read in a while. And I read a lot of crazy, funny books. Get your boarding pass out and get ready for some turbulence. Sky Daddy is insane.”

Kate Folk is the author of the short story collection Out There. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Granta, McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, and Zyzzyva. A former Stegner Fellow at Stanford University, she’s also received support from the Headlands Center for the Arts, MacDowell, and Willapa Bay AiR. She grew up in Iowa City and now lives in San Francisco.
Rachel Yoder is the author of Nightbitch (2021), now a feature film written & directed by Marielle Heller and starring Amy Adams (2024). Formerly the ’23/’24 Trias Writer-in-Residence at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, she now serves as Assistant Professor of Screenwriting and Cinema Arts at the University of Iowa.
