Prompt for the Planet: Community Promises
September 15 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeThis free community event will immerse attendees in a vibrant array of performances as local artists share their unique interpretations of Prompt for the Planet, transforming the theater into a space where art meets action, and creativity becomes a catalyst for change.
The Prompt was originally conceived in 2018 when University of Iowa student, Shannon Nolan and her instructor David Gould asked U.S. Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, to create a prompt for the rising generations to reflect on the state of the planet. Gorman’s challenge was simple yet profound: “Think of one element and speak in its voice through pictures and words.” This year, the project returns with an extraordinary showcase of music, poetry, dance, and visual art, all responding to The Prompt in a way that highlights the power of art to drive change.
This year’s event features an exciting lineup of performers, including:
Sara Routh | Bella Moss | Emily Pritchard & The LENA Earth Warriors Children’s Choir | Sophia McLaughlin | Snack Break Movement Arts: Joshua & Emily Culbreath | Chuy Renteria | The Quire | Daniel Fine, Dana Keeton, Fannie Hungerford, Katie Robbins | Elizabeth Rodriquez Fielder | Nick Goergen | Noah Goupell
The event is presented by The LENA Project, UI Office of Sustainability and the Environment, ENGIE, and The Englert Theater.
