Join City High student Tai Caputo as she continues reading aloud from The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, a compelling nonfiction book about Henrietta Lacks and the immortal cell line, known as HeLa, that came from Lacks’s cervical cancer cells in 1951. Tai first read this groundbreaking book to her grandmother in 2020. They discovered the pleasure of reading together as well as the fascinating bioethical issues raised in this important story of one woman’s contributions to medical science. Tai will provide a summary each week for those who have not been able to attend previously. When she finishes this book, Tai will begin reading Sandra Cisneros’s novel The House on Mango Street.
