(Iowa City, IA) – November 21, 2023 – The Iowa City Downtown District in partnership with the South of 6 Iowa City Business District (So.6) will be providing sessions on Leasing Clinics during a Lunch and Learn series focusing on commercial leasing and leasing tips for small businesses. The first of four Lunch and Learn Leasing Clinics will be held on Friday, December 8th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at MERGE in downtown Iowa City.
During the 90-minute Lunch and Learn event, attendees will hear from local experts on commercial leases, what to look for when considering a lease renewal or new lease, as well as tips and opportunities for small businesses. “Whether you are an aspiring entrepreneur or a long-time small business owner, grasping all the intricate details of lease agreements and knowing how to best negotiate and advocate for your business can be overwhelming,” said Angie Jordan, Executive Director of So.6, “These lunch and learns continue to create a safe space to explore and ask critical questions to increase entrepreneurial knowledge and confidence while also connecting small businesses to experts and resources within the Iowa City community,” said Jordan.
The Leasing Clinic Lunch and Learn series was designed to uniquely serve the needs of the small business community in Iowa City by providing upfront education by a panel of local experts from a variety of backgrounds with commercial leases. “We know that providing continuing education opportunities for our local entrepreneurs and small businesses is a priority for both So.6 and ICDD. We are honored to collaborate with So.6 to provide these clinics to give Iowa City businesses the best understanding of the commercial lease space”, said Executive Director, Betsy Potter.
The Leasing Clinics hosted by the Iowa City SSMIDs will be at no cost to participants but registration is required. Lunch will be provided for all registered attendees. Registration for the December 8th event is now open and available. The current business community as well as those who always wanted to open up their own business in Iowa City are encouraged to attend.

The Lunch and Learns will serve as an effective way to inform and engage local entrepreneurs over the lunch hour. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session with the panel.
