Thanks to local artist Ali Hval, there is another

Thanks to local artist Ali Hval, there is another new mural downtown! As part of the Iowa City Mural Project, supported by @greenstatecu, the new mural is located at Studio 13 and brings a vibrant, new splash of color to the alleyway. Visit 13 S. Linn St. to take a look for yourself. Stay tuned for even more artwork and murals coming to downtown later this year.

“The mural was created with pride being the main theme, utilizing the rainbow of colors already present on Studio 13's garage door. It is meant to be just as vibrant and engaging at night with the rope lights as it is with the saturated colors during the day,” - @alihval

The Iowa City Mural Project was created to help transform underutilized walls into beautiful, large-scale art opportunities. The continued support from GreenState Credit Union towards these public art programs in downtown Iowa City is critical in keeping the area “alive” and colorful, but also as an opportunity to support the community’s love for murals and activation in the alleyways.

Who’s ready to dance the night away!? Thanks to the continued support from @greenstatecu, the Silent Disco is coming back to Iowa City for the Downtown Block Party next Saturday, July 24th! This year, @silentdiscodsm will be on Clinton Street between Iowa Book and Pancheros from 5:00 - 11:00pm.

Feel the beats, get your groove in, and select music from three different DJs. Check in at either of the GreenState Credit Union tents on either end of the street to get your headset. The Silent Disco headsets are only allowed on Clinton Street, so stop by and boogie down!

The countdown is on! Only 10 days until the Downtown Block Party on Saturday, July 24th. The official event wristbands, sponsored by @tcosalon, and cups, sponsored by @collinsccu, have arrived and come with your ticket purchase. A ticket purchase will buy you the official event wristband and cup that will allow you to walk around the event with beer or wine. ONLY guests with these materials (event wristband and cup) will be allowed to do so. Wristbands only need to be purchased if you are consuming alcohol.

Tickets are on sale now. Purchase your ticket ahead of time and save $5. Pre-sale tickets are only $10 and prices will increase to $15 the day-of.

Iowa City's downtown public benches are colorful y

Iowa City's downtown public benches are colorful yet again! Thanks to @greenstatecu’s BenchMark Program, 10 new benches in downtown have a new splash of color with designs from local artists. Since 2012, the BenchMarks Program has worked to transform benches in original ways that surprise, amuse, or alter the expectations of downtown's shared urban space. From animals and flowers to abstract patterns, each design is original and sure to catch your eye. The dense gallery of benches surrounds the playground in the Ped Mall next to the Iowa City Public Library with a few others throughout downtown.

A shoutout and big thank you to the artists who painted this year's benches: Stanzy Scheetz, Jonathan Petrou, Hannah Jannusch, Ariane Parkes-Perret, Leslie Delavan, Ragad Osman, Angela Zirbes, Amira Qidwai, Kenzi Rayelle, and Erica Danner.

This free international public art installation is officially open now through August 10th for you to interact and play with. Come experience these twelve giant zoetropes for yourself. Each wheel features different artwork and sounds for you to enjoy. Make sure to stop by in the evening when they are illuminated.

Another new sign is up downtown! @heimiowacity, lo

Another new sign is up downtown! @heimiowacity, located at 112 E Washington St, has a new pedestrian-oriented projecting sign welcoming you through their front door. Thanks to @midwestone’s support with the CoSign+ project, @mcgjewelry was able to help fabricate and design the new sign for the local shop. Heim is home to a collection of ceramic art from artist and owner Allison Fretheim and features a curated collection of spirutally supportive goods for the home and body.

Thanks to @midwestone’s support with ICDD’s CoSign+ program, storefront enhancements and projecting signage will help further craft a creative statement along Downtown’s streetscapes. The goals of CoSign+ are to provide meaningful and original pedestrian-oriented wayfinding enhancements to support improved navigation of the downtown and Northside environments. Because of the support from MidwestOne Bank, ICDD was able to award $35,000 in “match” grants for eligible entities.
