50 YEARS OF HOLIDAY TUBAS!
Your favorite brass musicians are headed for the grand steps of the Old Capitol Museum for Iowa City’s beloved annual tradition: Holiday Tubas! Don’t miss the 50th anniversary of this community warming tradition.
The University of Iowa School of Music and the Pentacrest Museums invite guests to enjoy the classic holiday tunes on the Pentacrest. Come inside the Old Capitol Museum to warm up with treats after. Here’s everything you need to know:
- TOY DONATION:Â As is tradition, the crew will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for Holiday Shop of the Iowa City Domestic Violence Intervention Program. Bring a toy to donate!
- TREATS:Â Directly following the performance, the Old Capitol Museum welcomes all inside to warm up with hot apple cider and cookies in the beautiful, historic space at the heart of our great city.
- LET’S GET FESTIVE:Â The performers are hoping to encourage all participants and attendees to don their most festive apparel to help make this years performance the most visually colorful and festive yet. Break out the ugly X-mas sweaters, folks!
- PERFORMERS: The musicians made up of University of Iowa Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium John Manning’s studio students, joined by several alumni, adult enthusiasts and other students. **OPEN CALL** – anyone with a tuba, sousaphone or euphonium is welcome to join: “We ask them to meet us at noon inside of the Old Capitol building and we start playing at 12:30 and conclude at 1 p.m. We will be having two rehearsals prior to the event. Contact John Manning (john-manning@uiowa.edu to get involved). Those interested may join us, but rehearsal is not mandatory for participating in the performance.”
