Totally Tweens: Miniature Aquarium

March 7 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Thursday, March 7, 2024 –4:00pm to 5:00pm

Storytime Room

Recognize Women’s History Month by learning about a female STEM pioneer and creating your own mini version of her groundbreaking invention!

Learn about Jeanne Villepreaux-Power, a seamstress-turned-scientist who invented the aquarium in 1832, through a read-aloud of a picture book biography about her life entitled “The Girl Who Built an Ocean: An Artist, an Argonaut, and the True Story of the World’s First Aquarium” by Jess Keating.

Then, create a mini glass jar aquarium of your own to hold a real, live moss ball you can take home, scientifically observe, and think of Jeanne Villepreaux-Power’s strides whenever you see it.

This event is open to 3rd-6th graders.

If you need disability-related accommodations in order to participate in this event, please contact the Library.

This event is open to the public.
